Na cidade Aparan descobrimos um monumento invulgar dedicado ao alfabeto arménio.

A escrita foi criada pelo monge Mesrop Mashtots no século V depois de Cristo.

No ano 405 d.C. o alfabeto foi concluído com 36 letras (mais tarde foram 2 novas letras).
Assim, Mesrop Mashtotsé considerado um santo e patrono do ensino e da educação na Arménia. 

"The Armenian word for “alphabet” is այբուբեն aybuben (Armenian pronunciation: [ɑjbubɛn]), named after the first two letters of the Armenian alphabet Ա այբ ayb and Բ բեն ben. The Armenian script’s directionality is horizontal left-to-right like the Latinand Greek alphabets."*
